I am wondering if I could add adult sized fish into a 90g for a couple of months until my 300g is set up. Current the tank has 2 OB peacocks and 1 albino peacock, all ~4". I can add as many or as few as I want (either due to colour or asking price), 1 each of the following:

N. venustus ~5"
F. rostratus
Copadichromis borlei
Protomelis steveni taiwan
N. livingstonii
Placidochromis milomo

I've seen these fish a few weeks ago but don't remember the actual current sizes of these fish. Some may still have some growth left, I don't know. I will also be ordering 12 peacocks/haps next week that will be in the 3" range (10 intended for the 300g). The haps are 1 or 2 Cyrtocara moorii, 1 or 2 Protomelas spinolatus tanzania, 1 or 2 Protomelas taeniolatus. Planning on putting those in a 45g temporarily as well, I assume they couldn't go in the 90 as well? That bumps me to 18 fish. Several people have been of the opinion that I can hopefully get away with having the odd hap as 2 males in the tank as it has an 8'x24" footprint.

Current filtration on the 90 is 2 aquaclear 110's (I think, the biggest ones anyways). Filtration on the 300 will be a 140g sump.

Any thots would be appreciated. In a perfect world I've have my floor reinforced and the 300g in place....grumble grumble

They should be fine for a couple months, I mean fish don't grow overnight, so that will be fine. Your Venustus and Livingstonii and rostratus are probably the biggest growing capable fish, and if they aren't too big, you are fine.

I've decided to temporarily set up my 300g and in 2-3 months move it to its permanent home. Willing to take on the extra work to get these 8 fish, just don't find them around here often.
