A friend of mine baught 6 festea about 4 months ago and has been growing them in his 90 gallon. The are about 3"-4" and Im hoping there are some sharp eyes out there. I beleive they are F1.

Sadly it's hard to say because festae probably the hardest cichlid to sex you may need to take better pictures and wait a little take better pic first cause I can't really tell there a little blurry

First indication of being female is any black in the dorsal fin. Males will take on a green/greenish yellow coloration in their bodies and their fins will get lots of spangles and turn pinkish.

no they are definitely not. They can be sexed at around 3" if you observe as an owner having them at all times.. They are one of the easiest to sex because m & f are way different looking vs other fish m & f look the same.

The Viejas with small vents are the hardest to sex.. So are every fish where M & F look the same and have tiny vent tubes..

dude it isn't that simple. They change up a lot and lots of observation is needed to know the sex of them being so small.

Cant post a single blurry picture of every fish and expect sharp eyes.

The more pictures of an individual the better your chance of getting a good answer.

Nice ones

here's my guess.
The one facing left with bent body pose is a male..
the one pointing downward is a female.
The one in the bushes is a female.
