Picked up a yellow watchman!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have the same problem. Last wk I bought a mated pair of Yellow Watchmans. Ive seen a few glimses of the female but not seen the male since he went in :(

What I did was angle my tank so that when I walk into the room he wouldn't seem me, then look around the corner of a rock in the tank, and all I would see was his tail, with him sitting out in front of the burrow!

I have heard doseing iodine can be dangerous in a reef, and even deadly to everything in the tank, yet I have also heard without enough it can cause bad molts....

There is no 100% agreement whether iodine should be added. In the hobbyist sector of reefkeeping, iodine has been known to benefit soft corals and aid in the calcification of sps corals. It also helps aid in the molting process of crustaceans. It can also be used as a dip because it has antiseptic qualities. But this is all anecdotal evidence because there are no true scientific studies to verify the necessity or lack of necessity of adding iodine.

I dose iodide but before you put it in your tank I would definitely get a good test kit for it. Do you have corals or would it just be for your crustacean?

I have multiple colonies of zoas, a large frogspawn and bubble coral. What would be a good iodine test kit?
