Should I be worried about this?

Some backstory first:
I ended up rescuing a 4 inch Black Ghost Knife a short time ago from... truly terrible conditions. Its previous owner had put it in a container that couldn't have been bigger than a molly breeding box, with no place to hide. No decorations to speak of. The 'heater' was just one of those clip on lamps with light shinng directly over the water. The BGK's fin had been shredded up pretty badly and was laying on its side on the bottom of the 'tank'--would of thought it had been dead if the previous owner hadn't actually stuck in a finger to swirl around the water to force the BGK to move.

Now in a much bigger tank with plenty of hiding spots and caves, most of the fin damage had healed. Sort of. Instead of the fin having regrown black, in some parts it is completely translucent. The research I have done on this fish doesn't mention anything like it, so how normal is this?

The BGK had been acting a bit odd compared to what videos and info I have of this fish as well. Most of the info I've come across mention how this is a fish that likes to hide, with it being especially unusual for it being out during the day. With a BGK even supposed to being a bit territorial over its cave.

Not so with this fish. The first couple days it mostly stayed in a cave to only come out at night, but ever since then--even when it was still looking pretty ragged--seems to prefer swimming from one side of the tank to the other with the tank lights on. Have even caught it just laying on some floating plants at the top of the tank. Something I had only seen loaches and baby bichir do. The BGK also seems to have taken a liking for one of the other fish, a bichir, that actually shares its cave with. Couple of times the BGK had even nuzzled the bichir with the bichir tolerating the closeness (usually the bichir tends to keep to itself, pre-BGK preferring a cave on the opposite side of the tank).

Should I be worried about the nuzzling other fish and translucent fins?

it's probably glad to have a real life now :-)
I can't speak to the translucent fin re-growth. but laying on leaves is common IME, and it sounds like you have one of the nicer personalities, with swimming out that much. I had one like that long time ago, very fun to have.

x2 I rescued a 6 incher from a 20 gallon full of Royal Clown Knives that were beating the crap out of it and he was happier than ever acting that way in my tank. This was about 2 years ago and he's still with me :)

That's definitely normal behavior for a good BGK. Mine cuddles up and shares his hidey-hole with the other three clown loaches.

Mine would free swim at feeding times when small and later just did it at random. He shared a cave with a fire eel and mostly got along but occasionally would try to force him out. Like the others I've never heard of fin regrowth like that either but sounds like you're doing everything right. Good luck.

How long did it take for his fins to fix up? Mine had a run in with a filter intake:(
