Hardly a monster, but interesting no less, it is a mouthbrooder where the male carries eggs and young.

It is Betta albimarginata.

ive been thinking about either one of these or a pair of shell dwellers for a 10g, whats your experience with it been like?

I have them in a 55, but I've heard a small tank is fine.
I've been considering putting them in a smaller tank, they seem to get lost in the 55.
Bet they'd work with some shell dwellers, as they basically remain near the surface a major portion of the time, and the shell dwellers remain on or near the bottom.

My pH is approx + or - 7.5 and I keep a bit of a current going, it is my understanding they come from streams in Borneo unlike the waters the Thai B splendens lives in. This may be the reason they are mouthbrooders, coming from a place where moving water wouldn't allow a bubblenest to hold together.

Habitat destruction may be a factor in their future in the wild.
