RIP Deebo, now what do i do??

I've centered my 125 around my Oscar for the last 7 years. My good fishy. I really loved that fish.

Well, after a bout with what i can only guess was Columnaris, Deebo is dead. He was 7. I had to have my husband put him down today. His gills where a mess, his flesh was a mess, he was gasping and only suffering... I took him outside in a bucket, handed my husband a cleaver and ran inside plugging my ears.
(this was after trying everything i could find to make him better).

So, now i'm depressed and want to start all over. I have a Severum, Green Flyer Cichlid and a Tinfoil Barb.
Now what do i do? I'm not opposed to giving the other 3 away and starting with an empty tank.

I cant do little fish.
A 125 isnt quite big enough for some of the monsters i would want like a Jardini or Jaguar or Dovii, so what am I left with?

Maybe i'll go to the LFS and see if they have a big homeless Oscar i can bring home.
I have an FX5 running on it now, and the water is very good. No ammonia or Nitrites, and the nitrates are stable around 20 ppm. I really dont understand how he even got sick.


I know this topic floats around constantly, but i needed to get it off my chest.

oh, i do like Salvinis. Do they do best in pairs? although they are still kinda small for my taste. Maybe i'm just stuck an Oscar person....
I really to like all those Motas and Managuenses though. But a Jag would be too big right?

you COULD DO a jag in a 125 just not much else....also there are some real nice vieja types that would love to hang out in your 125,,,synaspillum come to mind,,,,also belated condolences on the loss of your friend

I know how you ust feel and it is strong of you to want to continue on with the hobby.Go on down to the store and pick out a little oscar or,rescue a big one.

If an Oscar gave you that much enjoyment I suggest you buy a Texas or green Texas(carpintis) little more aggressive with all the personality
