Canon 350d photos coming out all black

I recently bought a used canon 350d body for $50. All of the modes work fine except for manual. Whenever I take a photo in manual mode it comes out completely black or very dark. I've tried re setting all the settings with no luck.

Anyone know what my problem is?

don't know how to match required settings for proper exposure in various conditions? that takes some learning.
take a pic in auto mode, that turns out right. then look at, and use the ISO, aperature & shutter speed settings which your camera chose.
they'll be different for diff conditions. also use same lens, some lenses don't allow as much light as others.
daylight outdoor lighting is easiest for me to start with.
 
Well I played around with the settings and I managed to get some half decent photos.

Probably the best one I've taken so far....

To small of an aperture, to fast of a shutter speed, or both.
