ID These angels for me please?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
H'Herp, at that price they may well be philippine blues....
Get some more pictures for me and we will see if I can make a certain ID for that mutation. I can also pass those pics around to some of my angel breeder friends and see what they think.
Here is my facebook page about the Philippine Blue gene: https://www.facebook.com/Philippine.Blue
Check it out.

They sure look like the have a double dose of Philippine blue to me. Zebra lace will have a natural blue hue to them, but these definitely have much more blue than a non-philippine blue.. So my vote goes for Pinoy Zebra.

And there you have it. The Angelfish Master has spoken. And for those who don't know it, "Pinoy" means any Philippine Blue that has either one or two genes for Dark and is taken from the slang term used by Philippinos for themselves, referring to their skin color being dark(er).

I'm no expert on domestic angelfish so take what I'm about to say for what it's worth. If you look at the 1st pic it looks like a Zebra Lace, the second pic shows a lot of blue but if you look at the fish in the background and the dorsal fin of the fish below the angel you can see the lighting is high in the blue spectrum. I know the op says it is a 6K blub but I've seen some corolife T-8 6k's that were pretty white with a spike in the blue that had the same effect on some of my fish. I think this is more an effect of lighting than anything else....

Bleh, okay, I was slightly wrong about what my lighting is.
I have 4 t5ho (I have all 4 on cause it makes pics look a tad nicer and all), 2 being 6.5K the other 2 being 10K
Got the bulbs from catalina, along with the fixture.

Not sure if that changes anything or not, but I guess it also might be worth noting that it is technically possible for the fish to be different varieties, since I did get them from a lfs. However, they were relativly pricey for angels around here, so it could be that they are some sort of variety with some blue in them, as I don't think it's just the lighting (I think it would enhance it a bit perhaps....but still my lighting is for plants so I don't think there'd be much blue in it) but some of it has to be the fish themselves.

Either way, for now for my own record, I'll go with calling them Pinoy Zebra
