First of i would like to add nice to see more snake lovers! Miguel: Great minds think alike old man! I had ball pythons, corns, sand boas, and a constrictor. Although when the pythons began breeding i gave them away before the female had her eggs :(

Anyways, op, texas can be super simple, the males might have a hump at a decent size, very long pointed fins and the females is easiest as they will display a dorsal spot. As for the butti im not sure but be aware the aggression of a butto at 5-6" can exceed a Young midas already. Watch carefully.

And yes seeing a adult discussion with civility is rare on any thread but recently this one has been the worst its ever been.

Oh my queen! Just arrived from the office. Am humbled by your post!

Though, in all tryth, after a couple of stressfull years, t was either my above eveying Queen and mu eldest daughetr, or the snakes, andi, for the first time mellowe by age and uncertainty about the future,, had to let go of one part of the equation.

Coims mandated it was the snakes that had to leave, and not the otehr side of the equation. With life, you never know the cards that are dealt....

Well I got the texas and a tilapia....the texas is the same size as the red devil, and the tilapia is around 5.5in....chaos soon occurred between the red devil and texas! with some pretty serious fighting, including the red devil trying to take the texas`s eyes out! :o but the texas fought well and things slowly lulled a bit, I then did a big 50% water change and rearranged the decor, so far they have had one more battle (this time the texas started it!) but they seem to have come to somewhat of an understanding now, with them sticking to one end each....the tilapia is playing very nice for now, but did have to put the male convict in his place....all in all things are looking hopeful for a relatively peaceful co-existance for now! :)

What tilia? Buti?

Two things can happen here:

A. You have only begun to see battles and aggressions. (All bets are off overnight)

B. that was them establishing their roles, pecking order is done and other than the occasional reminder you wont see much else.

You did what i would have done with rearranging the ornaments. I actually did this yesterday because i removed about 6-7 fish and all chaos insued in everyone reestablishing roles. Theyre done now. There is something your gonna see happen often with what your trying to do. You will see their will always be what i call the Initiation torment by tank old timers. This is why as stated previously in this thread i have resorted to removing fish and using the divider. What you have to remember is when to call it quits. When that fish has had enough and when to remove. Which is where most people go wrong. They add a fish, go about there day come back and there is the new guy either dead or torn to pieces hiding somewhere they give up and say ok this fish is sooo aggressive and usually why some fish especially midas and devils are given a bad rap and always the first thing i hear is "they will kill everyone theyre super agressive!".
But this all comes back to the trial and error debate that some dont agree with.

yeah I think the texas has finally realised he is the underdog, and seems to get out of the way when the devil gets close, the oddest behaviour is from my little jag! he is actually really challenging the butti!! proper flaring up and trying to lip lock with him! the butti is probably around 5 times the size (bulk wise) luckily the butti is not even bothering to respond...but its something I will be watching very carefully, as if the butti takes up the challenge I would imagine the jag would be killed in one foul swoop.....
