I just noticed that the mouth of my Geophagus brasiliensis seems stuck, with bleeding at the sides. The tank is fairly peaceful, and this one has never gotten into anything with any of his tank mates. Any thoughts on what is happened, and is there anything I can do to help?

OK, mystery solved. He had an Otocinclus stuck deep in his mouth (guess I need to get them out now that the G. brasiliensis has grown considerably). Anyway, I pulled the Otocinclus out of the Geos mouth, and both seem to be doing alright. Hopefully the spines didn't do any irreparable damage to the Geo's mouth.
