DRIP SYSTEMS Success & Failures

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My wet/dry filters are 60 gallon tanks that are only 1/4 full of water. In power outages, they only get about 1/2 full so I'm not too concerned about an overload on the drain system. I like the idea of attaching a garden hose to the end of the drain and moving it around the yard. I will probably use 2" pipe for the main line and run 1" flex pvc to the tanks since it will be easier to work with. Since I have a small house, it really isn't a hassle to toss a siphon hose out the door into the yard. I forgot to mention that my house has a crawlspace underneath it and I have supported the joists with cinder blocks, lol. I hate crawling around down there so I'm gonna try my best to only have to go under once to run the drains and the fill lines. Going to the house water filter place today to check out what they have.

Resurrection!

So any updates people?
Anyone add to the system other than tanks?

Not sure if I read it but why not connect the water to the Hot instead of the cold line? I might try this and shut me heater off... See how much the change in temp is (once I'm done ordering and installing of course)

Hot water holds more dissolved solids, cold water holds more dissolved gasses. I trickle a gallon an hour into a 500 gallon system, it's just not enough water to change the temps. The advantage of using cold water is it's holding less dissolved solids and as soon as that cold water hits the warm water the gasses are released. So you have very pure water going into your tank. Remember your changing a very small amount of water over a very long time. 24 gallons a day, 168 gallons a week. That's about a 15% water change every week and the fish don't notice it. No panic swimming into the side of the tank. No temperature changes. Just a constant 1 gallon per hour. I've been doing this about 6 years now without an issue. Super happy with my system.

Cool, Thanks! That I did not know... Idea eliminated haha.
I should be buying my RO unit this week... as I talk to Jim more.

Wonder if anyone has changed their system?

Hmm, Jim sent me the RO link and which unit I wanted?

RO takes all the good stuff and bad stuff out and waste allot of water. Most of us use the carbon drip or the like because it keeps the minerals and doesn't reject water.

I asked for the filter to do water changes and drinkable... I'm sure more details to come on my setup then.
