What ancients could live in my 220 for life?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes they are. They can turn around in a space about one third their length. So I guess i should be keeping mine in just a 12" wide tank, right? Silver aro are a very skittish fish, the more room you give them away from the front glass, the much more calm their demeanor is. Proper amount of space has more to do then just room to manuver.

Not to mention the OPs tank is way to short in length for a 30" plus fish. Be barely 2x the fishes length. Betta have it better off in the cups they are sold in then 2x the length.

not all aros will grow to 30 inches. There can always be an upgrade.

Actually all arrows will reach 30 inches. Jardini's included but they usually wont exceed 30". Silver's can and will exceed 4 feet in length if they are kept alive long enough. This will take decades though. Their are people on mfk with 4 feet captive bred arrowana. 3 feet is very, very common.

Most polys except large ansorgii, endlicheri, p.bichir, and ornate. Clown knives unless its exceptionally large. Tropical gar, Florida gar, Spotted gar, and bowfin.

Well like I said in my 1st post, an upgrade is not an option at this point. Maybe in a couple of years when I buy a bigger house I can maybe get an 8'x3'. Probibly be best if I just waited as I wouldn't feel right keeping a 24" Gar or Aro in a 72"x24". And if I was to do an ancients tank, Gars and Aros would deffintley be a must.
Thanks guys.

A fountain of mis-information. Please post a link to a silver arowana over four foot. There is one MFKer that has a very large possibly 4 footer in a pond. With the 3 footers being so "common" you should be able to thorw up a dozen or so links, right? Not too many arowana much past the 30" mark in home aquariums.

If you're planning on the driftwood coming out of the tank then I'm guessing you won't have a lid, arowanas need a tight lid because they are very powerful jumpers and they jump a lot, also ropefish need a lid with absolutely no holes because they can easily slither their way through the smallest holes, I made that mistake and 2 hours after introducing mine to the tank he escaped through a 1 inch hole and died on the kitchen floor

I also had a ropefish and he died a few days later. He jumped. I bought another and the same night he jumped only i was in the bathroom and heard him bang against the wall. I lowered my water 3 inches. Been good so far.

you could add some datnioides in there they can be put with most of the above with some species getting to lengths of 18"+ it takes many years to get to this from small (10-15 or more) so most likely enough time to upgrade. some medium to large catfish and pleco's. also larger species of eel like fire or tyre track who can be taught to hand feed, amazing fish (not sure how long they take to get to 24"+ though).
