I saw someone selling three 5-6" tinfoil barbs on CL and was thinking of getting them. I was wondering how they would fair if I put them in my 125 with two Oscars, one is about 10" and the other is about 8" and a few other fish. I know they work well when the same size, but I was wondering if the size difference is too extreme. I always liked the look of tinfoil barbs, but I have never owned any, this may be my chance to get some for cheap. What do you think MFK?

It could go either way. If the oscars have established territories already then you might have some problems with aggression. If I were you I would have a back up plan just in case the oscars get mean and beat the tinfoils up.

I had an 11 inch oscar eat a 6 inch tinfoil barb. It was stuck in its mouth for two days before it finally managed to get it down. Could end badly for you. But then, they could be fine too. Good luck.

Oscars are clumsy brutes and will have a difficult time catching tinfoil barbs. I've had the combo in the past and nothing bad ever happened. My oscars were also totally pellet trained and never even realized they could eat fish, so I'm sure that played a part.

This pic is to prove what I said before. Oscars didn't touch em. Catfish: different story. I realize this behavior is not typical if the species. I just had extremely lazy oscars. But it can happen.

That is strange. My Oscars eat any type of food I put into the tank even if they are not hungry.
