If you use a Python Water Change system, then I have a question for you..

From what I understand, if you are pumping tap water directly into the tank, many manufacturers recommend that your add enough of their product to dechlorinate the entire tank, not just the gallons of water you are adding.

I use my python system almost nightly, but I only use it to collect visible waste on the bottom of the tanks. For pulling out gallons of water, I still favor my 1" inner diameter tubing and my home depot buckets. I just couldn't justify the wasted water any longer (but I do have several large tanks now). I also just turned 30, so I can't complain about lifting the 5 gallon buckets......yet!

ps - love the pic of the gulper cat in your avatar cambo.

See this is my problem. De-cholr the entire tank? No way! That's just not right. And with the amount of water changes I need to do, that would get expensive really quick.

I have a question regarding these (Either brand) water change systems... I have decent water pressure, but not what I would like to have. Is that going to be an issue regarding the suction these will then provide? Because if I am understanding how these work correctly, as your water passes through out of the faucet, it creates a siphon, in turn a vac? I have large fish, with large... excrement, would one of these suffice?

I use just a garden hose and adapter, and on my 55G & 90G I add the amount needed for the new water when I start refilling. since the 245G takes so long to fill, I add it it 3 doses as I go along, also for the amount of water I'm replacing.

If chlorine hits the filters, will it kill the BB instantly? Or what? I've been in the hobby for 30+ years, and I still dont understand if this is true or not.
It would depend how much chlorine concentration were talking about. In extremely high concentrations, yes. Your average tapwater, no. It would take 10 minutes to kill the majority of the bb.

I clean my bio media with tap water. Never had a problem

i dont use dechlorinator ever. i only do 1/3 water changes at a time.

Ok, but something is still not sitting right with me. If I use a python and pour and amount of de-cholr in the tank before I re-fill, everything should be ok, even if I just treat for the, oh, say for example 20, 30 gallons I take out and not the whole tank.

Just doesn't sound right. But is it? There is NO WAY im treating the whole tank on each water change, no way. Would that exclude me from using a python?

How does your beneficial bacteria live then?

With me, I can sometimes smell the chlorine as it comes out of the tap..
