my 4 lince catfish and a silver arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
how come lince are so rare? Is it just because of the high shipping mortality rate?

IDK about the mortality rate. Anyone else out there that can add to that?

Sweet! They are beautiful fish indeed. First time a see a small school - all I saw before were singles, although it is recommended to keep them in larger schools.

They are only available in over 1' sizes seasonably - hence the tremendous shipping expense.

From what I have read, they are almost never collected and shipped at small sizes, but usually at lengths of at least twelve inches and they require large containers for transport...lots of water, weight, and money...They sometimes die in transit even then.

Are you implying larger than usual containers for the same size but other catfishes?

Most of them that have been brought in were close to two feet in length and they ship in wooden crates...one to a crate if I'm not mistaken.

Not wooden crate but large polybox

And 1 x fish per box kicks the price up

They do die often to and often come in full of parasites

Thanks for the info. Are you speaking from your or someone else's experience? If yours, how extensive is your experience with the shipments of this fish? Sorry, IDK if you are a vendor. Just trying to learn further.

They do not ship well at all and for some reason I have never seen small ones available. Most that come in are around 14-18". I had one in my 10ft x 4ft tank that was around 17" and like T1 said they need a lot of space. They are constantly swimming and can dart across my 10ft tank in a blink of an eye. They also have huge appetites. Other than that, one of my all time favorite catfish for sure.
