So I decided to devote some tank space to one of my all time favorite cichlids,

Hypselecara temporalis (Chocolate Cichlid)

and one South American that captured my interest as a kid and was one of the fish that started me fishkeeping over 40 years ago, the much maligned & underrated "O"

Astronotus ocellatus (Tiger Oscar)

Interesting looking Oscar. I always hear such great things about chocolates and they're perfect for my tank, maybe I'll finally give the a shot if I see them at the gcca swap next week.

Ive kept chocolates off and on for years. Nothing nicer than a huuuge adult. Very overlooked fish. I have a 4-5" one right now.

And yeah i love the oscars torn in half loom lol ;)

Thanks, Chocolates are beautiful fish and pretty mellow a great cichlid for a large South American community. You should try them, then you'll be hooked like the rest of us.

Chocolates are an overlooked gem in the cichlid world. I never did understand why they are not more popular. I like whole oscars halfs arn't as appealing but to each his own.

What kind of setup are they in?

The Chocolates I have two (only one is pictured) are in the duce and a quater, I've only had them a few weeks they just came out of QT. The Oscar is growing out in a 90 with some P. Liopoldi His perminant home is yet to be determined.

Great!!!

Thanks Miguel, we'll we shall see what they develope into.

Not trying to dis your fish, and from the postings I'm sure you are way more experienced than I, but what is with the chocolate's belly? It almost looks tumor like?

I have a chocolate as well. I lost one at about 5 inches and had to get another. My first was very mellow. This new one is a bit feisty.

I don't feel dised it's all good. I saw that when I posted the pic. He just ate some of the 1mm NLS Thera +A pellets I feed the Angelfish in the tank, he's a bit of a pig with his big belly. He's only about 1.75"

Pigs they are. Mine goes nuts for food and at 4 inches will lunge out of the water if I hold some food above.

Best, I love my guy... Snickers II.

Nice chocolates aquenero.I have 5 now myself growing out, hoping for a pair
