Final saltwater newbie questions help brothers and sisters

Thanks everyone I'm just having problems with one thing. I CANT FIND DRY ROCK!!

I got an aq70 instead of aq50 getting some koralias240 this weekend or next weekend have salt and like 15lbs of aragonite might take some out of my 70g to dry out and wash to give me more also will be getting live sand from another hobbiests fish tank.


My fish life is sparked up with Polys :)
 
I know everybody insists on RO water but tap water can be used successfully for a FOWLR. I fill up two 5 gallon buckets, mix the salt in and let it sit for at least 48 hours. I float a bag of hot water in the buckets to bring the temperature up to the proper level while I am cleaning. I have not had one death yet in my tank (knock on wood) and it has been set up for 5 months. My nitrates sometimes increase to 5 in the first 24 hours but then they drop down after that. The quality of the tap water does depend on where you live but I at least can provide one success story with tap water.

Tap water for a marine tank even a fowlr should not be used ,in the end you will have more issues battling high phosphates and nuisance algae ,rather just start off rightnwith a rodi unit..

Yes Fishgallery is a great place, best in town I'd say for salt water variety. Yea people on the local forum use that site.

Thanks for the opinion everybody well I decided to go with just tap water for now for convince since I am doing lots of water changes for the stupid aragonite sand..... but tank is ready for cycling! got a random light from a 10g one with a bulb in it and going to replace with a cralife 50/50 florescent bulb Aq20 and aq70 with live rock ruble switched the impellers for slower rate and like 10lbs base rock and koralia nano powerhead and a 2.5" or so aragonite sand bed. It was supposed to be 40lbs but doesn't seem like it.... but hey came free with the koralia nano i got for $10. Will be doing an algae scrubber and converting aq70 to a refuge
