I've got a question for all you Dat keepers, are there 2 different types of American/Silver Datnoids? When you look up American Datnoids/Silver Dat's on the net you more often than not get pics like this.

Datnioides quadrifasciatus, a fish that in my opinion resembles Datnioides campbelli in most respects except coloration. Small eyes in relation to body, large scales a circle mark buried in the first bar behind the eye and a more perch like body than other Dat's. Some internet sites state that Datnioides quadrifasciatus has been renamed Datnioides Polota, how ever when you search for Datnioides Polota images you get a fish that resembles a washed out Indo Dat. Large eyes in relation to body size, small scales and thicker barring like the fish pictured below.

My question is are there 2 different American Tigers/ Silver Datnoides or are the sites that state that Polota and Quadrifascaitus are the same fish right? I ask because both fish pictured are mine and I recently obtained them from 2 different vendors both vendors stating that the fish in question are American Dat's/Silver Tigers. I obtained 3 resembling the first pic with small eyes in relation to body, circle mark in the first bar behind the eye and large scales from OceanState on here. Then a single specimen resembling the second picture with large eyes in relation to body, small scales and typical Dat body shape. Besides the differences in looks they are also very different personality wise. The 3 AT's/ST's I got from OceanState are bold nippy little things and upon introduction to my tank became instantly stable. The other AT/ST was timid at first but became hand tame quickly accepting feeders from my hand and now is eating Hikari stuffed market shrimp, he's also still the least aggressive Dat.
So anyone have an opinion on whether there's more than one kind of American/Silver datnoid? Are Polota and Quadrifasciatus one in the same or are they 2 different species of Datnoid? Do I have 3 real American/Silver Datnoids and one washed out Indo or do I have 4 American/Silver Dat's one a Polota and 3 Quadrifasciatus?
