How long in a 90

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
like I said I apologize. Drinking some single barrel distorts the vision in large enough quantities.

I guess we can agree to disagree. Your fish will only grow according to Its surroundings IMO and having your fish "grow out a tank" is a good way to stunt growth. If you have that 180, I would cycle that with your current media and house him in that from the get go and your Fahaka will grow over an inch a month I promise. And yes I do tend to jump, im only passionate on the well being of this practice. And seeing things like what I though I saw, is malpractice. I still disagree with a 90 gallon, but its way better to begin with than a tiny 60. just move him ASAP for his sake.

Yeah I've got a 180 that's gonna be its final home

Your fish will be more than fine living and growing in the 4x2x1.5 until it hits 10"-12"
Just clean up after feedings and do your regular WC's

I've grown out more than a handful over the years and have never had any of them become stunted.

I really don't like the word stunting tossed around too much, it just fuels the "it'll grow to the size of your tank" statement. It seems good that atleast he already has the tank for his final home. A lot of people plan on upgrading without even yet owning the tank. But yeah average is 12" by the 1 year mark as far as most owners I've read have stated.

Our Mbu get to about 20" in a 110G and he is not stunted. I don't recommend that, of course, but just because you keep too big of a fish in too small of a tank does not automatically guarantee that they will be stunted. Stunting is more a function of diet than of tank size, in my experience.

Just my 2-cents.

exactly

Thats a miserable giant.

No, I wouldn't say so. He never acted like he thought he was stressed out from the tank size and honestly, I would have gotten him out of there sooner but contruction on our house ran longer than expected and as they say, "it was what it was". He is in a 300-gallon now and has plenty of room.

Im glad those were temporary quarters and is in a better home. A horse can walk a bit, lay down eat poop and breath in a house but it doesnt make it ok, nor would the horse yell at you either. I would say 300g is the bare min To house an mbu. Id love for yours to reach the double digits in age. I wouldnt have the courage to house one smaller than a 700g but youre doing better than most do anyway. Good luck.
