Why are there so many posts accusing someone of being a rat? A simple search on this site will tell you every single person who has posted about an Asian Aro. From there, all it takes is a little research.

Whether the law makes sense or not, it is still the law. If you don't like the law, work towards changing it. Going around the law just because you don't like it is rediculous. Those are the types of people that do more harm than good. Sometimes life isn't fair. A little truth, one person can ruin it for the rest of us.

Its a shame that you lost all your fish and got busted, but the biggest shame is the set back the folks activly trying to get the ban on asian aro's lifted in the US suffer from every time something like this happens. Now im not hating on anyone here, cuz believe me if you think i havnt thought of the short 9hour round trip into Canada and back your crazy. The reason i dont is the hundreds of petitions floating around that may some day land such a beautiful species in MY TANK. Well thats my thoughts thanks for listening. Again im sorry for the ill luck of the OP :(

Illegal ownership has nothing to do with the laws/bans in place. The laws were instituted by people who don't have a clue about the legislation they pass. Ignorance is the biggest thief of freedom.

And there are way to many critical posts calling someone yall don't know "dumb". Get over yourselves and try to admit to your own screw ups before bashing on someone elses. I personally know of many many illegal fish in tanks "close" to me. Of course they don't post up on the www everything they have. Thats the real slip up this guy made.

well, what state are you in? I believe you can get a permit in Louisiana to have them imported.

What are you talking about?..Whether the lawmakers are clueless or not is what has nothing to do with the issue here....law is law whether we like it or not.The law is the law,and he broke it..and was dumb enough to expose himself by bragging about it,so be it....Funny how you bring up the so called critical posts calling the thread starter dumb but you pretty much did the same thing, all be it in a nicer way,by saying that he slipped up.

Krichardson,
My post is in reference to the previous posts about hurting the hobby for the rest of us.

I don't know about you, but I probably break a law every day.

And I did not call him dumb, that is throwing an insult. I just pointed out how he made a mistake (I know we all make them).

This law was in place prior to the farms breeding the aros. I know this for certain, because in 1987 there was an article in TFH (wonder if I still have it?) with picture documentation of the first captive breeding. It was a really cool set up. He had these giant vats inside with windows cut in the sides that he was able to photograph the entire spawning process. The law is just an antiquated law that needs to be brought up to date. At the time it was passed it was necessary. I am old.

I was responding to what you said in the first two sentences in that post...I'm sure quite a few of us break laws every day but most of them likely don't carry the penalty that this fellow's does and I refuse to believe any talk of him not being aware of the fish's legal status in this country..He even mentioned something about banned fish in his profile...The lesson here is if a person is willing to break a law then don't whine about it if he/she gets caught and has to face the consequences.

Look, here are my thoughts on this, yes they are farmed yes they are here and readily available, yes brght red fish would probably have a hard time survivng adolescence if released to repopulate. If you choose to keep one, keep it on the downlow.

As far as the law aspect, I do not really see how targetting indivual keepers is helping anything other then the cash driven by the fine, what should be done if you want to enforce the law is stop the stream of them entering the country, if not treat like any other antiquated law and don't enforce.

It sucks I'm not going to be calling anyone names because it is true we all make mistakes, and that's that we can't change what has already happened but to learn from it
