Well I certainly hope our back and forth didn't come off as anything hostile. We simply have a slight difference of opinion but both our points are valid. I would simply suggest people try both and see what works for their application. I know when I first installed the FX5 on a 75g I wasn't impressed with the flow at all. I had to add a power head to help move the water. After installing the spray bar and fine tuning it I am so much happier I would never go back to the dual nozzle. Again, I think it is a "different strokes for different folks" type scenario.

No worried F1 :).

I think there is a difference between turn over rate of the tank and water circulation of the tank.

The wider output would help with the former, but not necessary the latter...a spray bar would be much better for the latter at a reduction of the former.

If you have a fx5 in a 75, I would certainly incline to agree that a spray bar is a good choice because you already have plenty of over all turn over for the tank.

A reminder too since your spray bar is new f1 that if you angle your spray bar to create surface ripple, most likely you have angled the holes slightly upwards...pay attention to water levels when you are going off for a few days...if the water level drops below a certain point, the water could start to spray up with some unintended consequences for your floor if your tank is not tightly covered.

That is very good advice. I know that if my water level drops below the holes it will certainly shoot water out of the tank even with the glass lids. I remember being worried about that for the first week after I installed mine. I know if ever I go on vacation I will simply rotate my spray bar downwards a bit to hopefully eliminate that concern.

Haha, seen/had this happen before.

Haha thx.

Nah the point of the spray bar was to distribute flow across the entire length of my tank so it would stir up all the debris making my fx5 more efficient as far as mechanical filtration goes and that it does, holes are all angled down into the sub.

But that would actually be hilarious, i could see my gf sitting on the couch and all of a sudden its raining all over her lol.

This is how I run my 2 Fluval FX5s in my tank.I have one output pointed up and the other down lower with the intakes both on the other side of the tank. This is working very well.

Dam ive never heard such problems with an Fx5! Especially 3 times in a row...

That 1 ac110 wont really do much on a 210g lol make that 2 ac110s w/ a powerhead + your sump :D

I put Matrix bio and a bunch of pothos in my AC 110. That and the sump should be enough on a 210g. I have a tile substrate and vacuum the poop every other day to help it look cleaner.

Currently running a fluval 406 on one tank, and I'm happy with it, but not as happy as I am with my eheim 2217. I also run aquaclears on both my tanks and can comfortably say they're my favorite HOB filters.

Love my fx5 in the process of getting another. Love hagen filters, haven't tried fluval heater(running eheim heaters love them). How are hagen heaters anybody who has them?
