I have a question to you armatus keepers. Do armatus lose all their teeth or just the 2 large fangs? I collect the fangs that i see that have fallen off but i've never seen any of the remaining tiny teeth in its mouth. Do those all off when the armatus gets older or do the teeth just grow inside the mouth like most of the fish do?

as for my second question, if there is teeth that doesn't grow in properly, does it evenually fall off and grow in a "properly place" tooth? this doesn't include the 2 large fangs. this because The front TOP incesors of the armatus' jaw is cutting against it's lower jaw and its leaving a nasty mark. That tooth will fall off and grow back a better fit set right? The tooth doesn't seem to be adjusting to the right place but it actually seem to grow even more off.

thanks

I had a redtail that had one of it's front sabers bent and was stabbing the inside of his mouth.

Fished him out and trimmed it with nail clippers, few weeks later - fell off.

I think they only lose the two long fangs normally.

Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

then i'm screwed. The top teeth are continuing to bend and its cutting deeper into the flesh. is that what happening to the "buckteeth" of yours? Is it the same? or is there a teeth pointing out but not scraping? Have you had any experiences of it getting worst?

That teeth seems to be growing bigger each day!

i'm not talking about the front sabres. It's the top jaw's front teeth.

They loose all their teeth. Iv literally found about 100 small teeth scatterd around the bottom of my tank, I only keep the large fangs I find in a container. If a tooth doesnt grow in properly, they may not loose it right away until it either falls out on its own, or a new tooth is ready to replace it. Mine has the small fangs up top that dig into his lower law aswell, but once he looses those teeth, it heals over until the new fangs grow in and it starts over.

thanks again! These armatus are stressing the heck out of me!

Lol iv noticed, before I got mine I tried to soak up as much info as I could about Payara's. I still read as much as I can about them, they're very interesting.

They replace all of their teeth periodically but you normally only notice the fangs. If a tooth comes in wonky it will most likely come in normal the next time the fish sheds.

Exactly. The only reason iv found soo many teeth is because of the tile bottom in that tank. If I crouch down to eye level with the tile, I can see at least 3 small teeth laying infront of me right now.
