75 gallon filtration help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for clearing that up! Actually I think my local fish store has all three of those, or ones that look very similar. They are a bit expensive though. I will look into them a little more.

I have been looking into the severums a little more. Are they a community fish ? I see some people say yes others say no. Could one be kept with a torpedo bard or something like that?

most sevs do well in a community of med-lrg fish.... just dont do anything tiny(small tetras)and it should be ok .... but sometimes sevs can be a -holes .... but not very often ... in a 75 a sev with maybe 1-2 cichlid tankmates (nothing over 6-8 inch adults)OR a catfish or2(same size6-8in.) should be ok ... PERSONALLY I would make sure sev is dominent fish ...if thats going to be centerpiece(you can achieve this by putting it in the tank a few days before other cichlids)take a look at SUPER RED SEVS... these guys are cool looking.... on a final note... large tetras or giant danios do well with sevs, you could put a school (7-11 ) instead of other cichlids (this would help with agg. territoriality problems)and maybe put a syno cat or striped raphael cat in with sev and tetras.... sorry for the delayed response.... I hope this gives you plenty of options and ideas...... ps TORPEDO BARBS WOULD WORK WELL WITH SEVS 90% OF THE TIME... thats a great idea for tankmates (you would want a few,,4-6 at least)

on the filtration issue ,,your 2213 + a big hang on back(aqua clear110 or aqeon 55/75...my favs) should be adaquate...

Thanks for that feedback. Those red severums look really cool! will definitely have to look for one of them. I like the catfish ideas, will have to try and find one of them. I have never seen them in fish stores around here. Would something like cory cats and glass catfish work well with the severums as well. I would think they would be large enough not to be eaten.

As for filters, I want to stay away from the hang on back filters. I have had them before and have never had a good experience with them. I found a eheim 2217 online for $120 that I might buy. Also a greenhouse and pond supply place I used to work for buys from a wholesaler that sells aquarium supplies and fish, so I my be able to find a good filter for cheaper.

CORY CATS SHOULD BE FINE ... NOT SURE ABOUT GLASS CATS..... 2217 should work

So I was thinking of this as stocking options for the tank
1X severum
5X torpedo barb
5X glass catfish
6X cory cats
1X striped raphael cat or syno cat or smaller pleco if I can't find any of the other cats.

Could I add more fish or would this be about all I would want in the tank ?

that should work well ... the ONLY THING I might have question about is glass cats w /sev or other cats... you should check out profile of glass cats to make sure they can handle the stress:popcorn: thats about the limit on stocking for a 75 if you get all those fish
