Ok..so before all the comments....this is not mine..i text a guy from craigs..fire a fishing pole and i see this..imo it's kinda sketchy??

And yes smaller stands are nice for Maintenance..but i like the taller stuff so when i stand i can see good..oh mine is about 4 foot and a couple inches

That's pushing it! If he had a piece of 3/4" plywood that went the length of the tank I'd feel more safer about that. I put a 40g breeder that is 18"wide on a stand that was only 12" wide. But I sat the tank on a piece of plywood that was 18" wide then centered it so only 3" hung off front and back of the stand.

Any ways back this old thread topic I built my 300g stand to sit 30" high. High enough to get all the plumbing and fit the sump below it. I didn't want it too high as the tank is also 30" tall. I didn't want to have to reach too much just to work in the tank. Plus I felt 30" was a good level to view from sitting on my couch.
 
30" here, I built it to 30" because it was 40" deep and I needed to be able to move it through doorways. :D
 
35" to clear all sump plumbing and the tank lives in the main hallway of my house so being a little higher is a cool viewing angle.

If you view your fish sitting down, 30" is the recommended height for the stand. If you view your fishes standing up, buy yourself a chair. LOL!
