Pair of Geos for 60 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a group of 5 geophagus taeniopareius and they are fine in a 75gal but they share it with a few other fish so alone in a 60gal might work. They don't grow fast at all and at 3" they have spawned once already. They're extremely active fish and not as aggressive as I have read.

How about g. Stiendachneri? They don't get big and have nice colors and personality. MonsterAquariaNetwork app

I've looked into the steindachneri, I do like them, how many should I get for my tank? I've emailed my LFS and they do not have them, but, are trying to get them, if worst comes to worst I'll have to order them online. I also like the Red Head tapajos, which again my LFS does not have. I'm really trying to avoid having to order online and have them shipped because I've had a lot of problems with the various shipping companies coming to my home to deliver, not ringing my doorbell and deciding no one was home and either taking the package back with them or just leaving it outside my front door.

I would agree with the "red hump" group of Geophagus for that size tank, which also contains the species crassilabris, and pellegrini. They have interesting, quirky personalities and are best kept as a harem with 1 male and 3 or more females.

I'm not exactly sure about how many and maybe someone with experience with them could chime in. from what I understand they are harem breeders so you need to have one male and a small group of females. I don't have any personal experience with them though. I know they get to be 6'' so a small group would should work. Everytime I see them at my LFS they all follow you from side to side just like an oscar.
