I am thinking about getting some xenotilapia (Enantiopus) melanogenys Zambia any advice about them I know little about them.

Sand substrate is their normal habitat with wide open areas, they are sensitive to poor water quality and pH swings (pH in the high 8 range is desired). They are gregarious and prefer to live in schools, and should not be kept with other aggressive species.
I was able to keep them with upper water column, non-aggressive cichlids such as the Cyprichromis complex, but they suffered with anything more aggressive.

Agreed. They need pristine water. Everytime I've had this species or one similar, they die if you don't give them the attention they require. Keep up with the water changes, feed them a quality pellet and be careful with tank mates.
i was planning on having them in a 40B of there own and maybe get a bigger tank later when they get a bit bigger. my normal ph where i live is around 8 that's why im looking into the Africans now i was trying to do south americans but they didnt like my water to much. where im planning on getting there about 1.25" for $12 does this seem like a decent price?
I Have a group of 27 of these at the moment only issues to bare in mind with them is one making sure food gets to them if being kept with other tangs as they aren't quick at feeding. also my two biggest males give my other males a hard time as to be expected but just keep an eye on ratios when buying them. also they need pristine water or they go down hill rapidly.
I saw a group of 6 adults on gcca.net classifieds for $200, so I'd also say $12 each is reasonable, make sure you get a group, they are very social.

Thanks for all the input I was planning on getting like 10 of them and keeping them in there own tank so I think they will do good. I'm also mostlikly getting some calvus too.
