Acrylic or glass for 6x2x2 tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would do glass on a tank that size, as stated they aren’t hard to find on cl if you look at that size and you don’t have to worry about scratching. While it is going to be heavy, 2 people can lift a 125 and 4 a 265 without too much trouble.

Don't see much of a benefit in going either way, anything bigger I would go acrylic anything smaller go glass. I would just grab the best deal that can be found which will most likely be a glass tank.

I was looking at building a tank of this size and after research I decided to use glass but bare in mind that if your going to build yourself then I would definitely go for low ion opti clear glass so you get a truly clear tank and not the green hue you get from standard float glass it cost a bit more but I deffo think its worth it also if your getting the glass cut get them to polish all the edges for you through their machines it makes for a much better finish ! I never actually got round to making mine as I came across a 6' 6" x 2' x 2' 200gallon for £100 even at that price I'm a little disappointed that the edges aren't polished and the glass is float ! Do it properly from the start as after alls said an done fish tanks are for looking at and it's worth going the extra mile !

Glad I was not one of them. That thing would be crazy to move.

Acrylic is classy lol i love it, light weight, clearer than glass, stronger, and far more repairable than reg. Glass. It will crack before it shatters, and cracks are easily fixed. Perfect example 4 people to move a glass 210.......2 people to move an acrylic 300. I dragged an acrylic 450 down a staircase by myself :). Cons of acrylic are scratches and price $$$ there more money for a reason lol.
