Just Bought a 'Misc Cichlid' - Amphilophus Lyonsi?

Just been to my LFS to pick up some food for my guys.

As we all do, I had a good nose around to see if they had any new stock in and came across a strange but lovely little specimen labelled up as 'Misc Cichlid'.

It was only £10 and really appealed to me, so I took the plunge and it's now making friends in my 155g.

So what do you guys think? Is it a Lyonsi? Regardless, he/she's a great addition and already full of energy and swimming around (not shy at all).

That's not a Lyonsi I wish it was, it's either a low grade flower horn or it's a Trimac. Either way they are very aggressive fish and can easly kill your GT and EBJD. This is one of the reasons we preach reasearching fish before buying. IMO I would retund it. The next time you could take a picture at the fish store, post it and ask for and ID. It's a good looking fish but I wouldn't risk keeping it.

I'll take it back to the shop tomorrow then! Rather annoying since I thought I was on to a winner with this one!

The LFS had a nice 4.5" Salvini I think I'll swap it in for. I know they're ok for community tanks.

I know that sucks, but that EBJD looks like you put a lot of time into growing it into a nice fish. It would be a shame to have somthing happen to it.

I would do your research. Salvini are MUCH more aggressive.

It is a female Trimac, and will do well in your tank.

Salvini will be just as mean as that flowerhorn with fish like ebjd and green terrors, infact some can be a lot worse, and at 4.5" i'd bet its grown in its teeth.

Hmmm, well I can only say my research about Salvini's come from the internet (don't actually know anyone keeping them).

I'm definitely keeping my female EBJD, she's one of my prize fish. I guess I've only got myself to blame on this occasion.

fwprawn, do you think if it is a female, she'd be ok?

I've got a 9" female jaguar and she's absolutely fine with my small cichlids and only flares up at my 8" male JD.

My 11" True Parrot is the boss/peace keeper in the tank.

Never no people have had a lot worse combos of fish than this, as we all say aggression is down to the individual fish not the species. Your ebjd could turn around and kill this little guy, just keep a eye on all of them.
