Heater staying on Ebo jager

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you have it set a 78 degrees and the water temp does not reach that then it will always stay on. Looks as if you need to add another heater.

unplug and it recalibrate the heater. i had the same problem and it was my fault. read the directions on how to calibrate the heater. after i did my calibration my 300 stays at 80 with 2x 300 watt heaters.

I've had ebo jagers for many years without any problems aside from the time a turtle destroyed one. However, they are primarily made of glass and could certainly be banged up or damaged while in transit or defective. Personally, Ive learned from experience to be pro active with suspected heater issues and to not use cheap or extremely old ones. There is nothing worse than realizing your heater has boiled your fish or your fish have frozen to death!!

Cryptics suggestion of putting it closer to the intake me be a very good suggestion and great thing to try first.

It's certainly possible your new one may not be functioning properly. Personally, I'd return that one if you have any doubts about it not working correctly.
Return and exchange it for the same size heater or larger one. Atleast then you'll know you dont have busted heater and what works for your set up.

Please keep in mind if the room tank is in is very cold, that could effect how hard your heater has to work or how warm it can keep your water based on surrounding room temp.

I wish you a lot of luck resolving your issue quickly!!!

+1.

A 300w can easily be too small if the ambient temperature is too low. Running a sump (especially should it be a wet/dry) will really tax it much further.

Best test is to raise the ambient temp (e.g., to 75) and see if the heater stays on, raises the tank to 78, then shuts off. If so, it's the ambient temp plus the sump. Then either add more covers, add a heater or choose a higher room temp.

That heater will easily heat that much water with out a problem, Stop listening to those that are saying you need more heaters and actually look at the faulty heater or you do not have it adjusted correctly, Crank the thing up to max and if it heats super high great it works and you need to adjust it, turn the thing all the way down and it stays the same then you know its a bad heater. With mine that I had the light stayed on all the time no matter what I did, all the way up all the way down and it always felt a little warm to the touch but was overall just not heating like it should. Unpluged it for a couple days, adjusted everything, even wrote stupid customer service and told them all my testing and that I had adjusted it back and forth every which way and all they could write back was try adjusting it some more. They never once took an opportunty to have me send it to them and get it replaced or anything, and I just purchased it, never used before. I have 4 of these heaters on my 600 gallon tank and they are so so in my opinion, all have a little moisture in the glass since putting them in new, but at this point they are about 6 months old and still running alright so we will see how long they last and if I care to buy more again. I run my 120 with sump off a 250 watt Aqueon Pro heater. Lifetime Limited Warranty I really wish they made a 300 watt model or larger I would buy those exclusivly. But so far my 250 watt unit has been great, always kept my tank warm and like that I can tell that its working and on all the time.
