Strange, sudden , develpent in midas lips

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Can you take a side profile shot?
And I agree with Aquanero, temps under 82'F should stop ducklips in its tracks, as the bacteria slows its reproduction and gives the fishes immune system an edge.

QUESTION PUT BY DUANES

The upper lips are perfect.
It is just the right side of the underlip, in both cases.

Alao, both have the slightest wound in the middle region of lower lip, which looks consistent with teeth from the other fish and lip torsion due to liplocking....

As said, both were allways alone. Have not had competition and show off with mates.

I know am being optimistic, but i see a slight improvement in the barred just with the cold water

MY REPLY TO DUANES

BUMP?

ive had the med myacin 1 and 2 posted to the uk of ebay, found it very very effective one is for gram positive bacteria and two is for gram negative i think. i cured cotton mouth with myacin 2 after all british meds failed although waterlifes myaxin seemed to slow it until the american meds arrived. ive also ebayed tetracycline from thailand, an antibiotic....

all i can think other than disease or injury is allergic reaction, maybe new food or something that was on your hands which transfered to the food?

i like the idea that they are so happy they are reverting back to wilds, although a little optomistic you cant deny it looks very similar to the rapps pics!

Imread the thread, Neill. Thank you very much.

In any case:

Fish remain unchenged, nor worse, nor visibly better. ( by that i refer only to the swelling pf the lower lip rightside )
Both are between 23-24 celsius in well aerated tanks, with partial water changes everyday.

Only thing added is salt and epsom.

Will keep like this a couple of days still.

For what its worth, the barred one is happily munching Hikari aro sticks....

Is it because they are much softer ?

Just an update on this 3rd or 4th day...

Fish are in cold water.

Acting perfectly normal.

Barred one has decreased the size of his swollennes.

Yellow one is unchanged.

Only thing added is salt and epsom.

Sure would be a hell of a trick for a hybrid citrinellus to convert to a wild labiatus. :)

Agree with Tom, looks like the early signs of Flexibacter columnaris aka "duck lips".

Check this past thread out, Miguel.

HTH, good luck amigo.

Hey now no need to point out my brain fart. :p lol!

Good luck bro, sorry I wasn't more help. I'm glad they're eating at least and hope they recover soon.

Update.

Barred has improoved significantly. Today plugged the thermo on, water was rather coldish.

Yellow is more or less the same, without any development for the worse at all. Still keeping her cold.

Smal water changes daily and add salt.

I tend each day more for liplock accident and inherent severe lip torsion.

UPDATE:

Barred barely shows any swollenness

Yellow seems to start decreasing. Yellow remains in coldish water.

Barred eats well.

Yellow nothing relevant. Am not sure it does not pcik something up from the bottom.

Besides the above said, both act perfectly, glass banging, normally.
