hey everyone,
just curious if anyone has ever tried to do a Kenyi only species tank before, or if anyone has any opinions on if this would even be possibe to do successfully becuase of the hostile nature of this species...I really want to give it a whirl in my 75 gallon tank. I'm thinking that if i only have 1 male, and end up with somewhere around 14 or 15 females (and A LOT of rockwork), i might end up being successful. I work at a fish store in my town so i get a great discount on the fish, and the Kenyi we sell come in two sizes (1.5 inch juvies, and 3 inch subadults). So since we sell lager ones, picking out who's male and whos females is pretty easy, as i've seccesfully vented most of the ones that come in at the larger 3 inch size. So what do you guys think? Is that enough females to keep 1 male at bay? Or is he going to systematically kill them all off :(
Let me know what you think, I really want to give this a shot
Thanks!

Should work but every fish is different. If you get a nasty male you never know.

I had a African setup for a couple years and Kenyi cichlids are what got me out of Africans. I had a male that killed a ton of fish before I saw him as the culprit and took him out. You may need to remove holding females because as soon as they were holding he would kill them. My advice would be a ton of hiding places and a divider for pregnant females.

Of course it will work. How do you think they breed kenyi?

Well I'm sure in a 6 foot tank, breeding kenyi without many casualties would be pretty easy. I'm just making sure it can be done successfully in the confines of a 75 gallon 4 foot tank. Breeding these guys certainly wouldn't work out well in a tank less than 4 feet lol
