Anyone ever tried mixing Peacock Bass with ATFs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
everyone thinks tigerfish are so mean and nasty.... in my experience the only fish they fought were other tigers and my tarpon a little bit, otherwise they've been outcompeted and out grown by every other fish i've tried... arowana, nile perch, peacock bass being a few fish i had to get rid of... even now my goliaths never ever fight anyone... my Dorado beat the hell out of them in my 220 but now in the 400 everything is peaceful, except of course for one of my goonch cats eating a datnoid.... i would expect my tigerfish to be the last fish to attack anyone.... my Vatf was a bit more bold and aggressive than my goliaths, but still nothing compared to the aggression and boldness i saw from my bass when i had them... and my tigers are all over 12 inches now.... i guess i should hope this continues hearing everyones horror stories! guess it also shows how the tankmates, what we feed, and size of the tank can all have an impact on fish behavior.... maybe mine just became sissies since i've tried so many other fish with them that beat them up or at least scared them into submission .... i'd love nothing more than to keep a few bass in my tank, so i hope it works sashimi, it'll give me hope!

I have 12" plus pbass with my almost 12" Vittatus with no problems. There is a bunch of other fish in the tank and it's 520 gallon. Would like to do a tank of TATF's.

TATF are some sexy fish!

Personally I think its a bad combo. Either the pbass will get beaten on and shredded, or the pbass will out compete the ATF for food, or even consider the ATF as a food item. Everytime iv kept pbass, no matter the current stock, the pbass always quickly became boss of the tank.

Well I answered my own question. It was a bad idea. The Peacocks were hogs and would cram as much food into their mouths as fast as possible while the ATFs eat slowly. So the Bass would stuff themselves and spit out the chewed food wasting a lot of it. The ATF were not eating very well with them in there so I sold the Peacocks.

It was worth a try but in the end I just stayed with ATFs and 3 dithers.

sucks man, but worth a try for sure, you just never know how it'll work until you try it..... sounds like there werent any deaths or anything too, so thats another positive.... i'm gonna try a chinese perch or 2, maybe a nile perch when they come around, hopefully it'll work out.... i had a nile in with my guys, and he was much more docile than the bass as far as territoriality and badgering other fish... .he was just a food hog and grew too large, but not as fast as the bass either

Well if it's a food hog then the ATFs won't eat as much. My ATFs take forever to eat. They basically need like 10 mins to themselves to finish eating.

My GATF is the same way. He doesn't eat the pellets, he hunts them.
