I have seen a lot of these lately and I really want one...I'm curious if it can go in a Cichlid tank being as I have 3 tanks full of Cichlids also what are their eating habits? Please let me know...I can move some stuff around and let him fly solo in my 20g but really want him in my African Cichlid tank let me know

As far as I know it will be ok with cichlids as long as they are big enough not to be eaten, they are predators and feed at all levels and they get way to big for a 20g if I remember right they get to around 23-27" so you will need a fair size tank to keep 1 properly

Well my current running setups are 75g 55g and 20g...my 75 if over capacity with Assorted African Cichlids so its out...My current project is the 55 it will house 1 Blood Parrot and 2 Jewels...Possibly a JD and another Blood Parrot...Once the Jewels have been re homed...So good deal Thanx

They go fine with cichlids that won't bug them or fit in there mouth. They aren't aggressive to other fish but I have been told the most aggressive to them selves? ? But way to big for a 20g. Yes Max is around 28" or something but that is Max rarely any get to that size and it takes a long time. I think haos is 17" at 5 years. But will get about 12" in the first year and go from there.

My fish life is sparked up with Polys :)

I think It would be ok in the 55 for a while, just get 1 as small as you can and be prepared incase you need an upgrade :)

Yes, they do reach sizes of 27", however 18-24" is much more common in the aquarium. As far as a suitable aquarium size goes, the absolute minimum aquarium they should be housed in, should be 75 gallons. Generally, they're passive towards other fish, but can be aggressive to their own kind. Suitable tank mates, would include snooks, oscars, large severums, red devils, flowerhorns, peacock bass, uarus, and larger varieties of the geophagus.

I would suggest tankmates much bigger than itself. Most fish in my growout tank have vanished, the survivors all have pieces of fin missing. Now that I moved it to the big boy tank, no problems. These guys have a large appetite with a good size mouth to back it up. Long term, I would suggest a 125 for footprint, but as already stated its going to take a decent amount of time for that to become a need.
