My 75 is currently run by 2 aqueon 75's and a aquatop cf400uv. Was thinking of going to a diy overflow and diy wet/dry using pvc and sterilite storage dresser. I want a major turnover atleast 700 gallons. My stock is gonna be a breeding pair of cichlids reaching 12 inches. Am I going way over what I need? Just thinking of downsizing if it means saving money. Not sure how many watts my current filtration uses but I know the mag pumps for sumps use a lot.

I have a DIY PVC overflow and the drawer sump on my 220 with a pump that does around 600 gallons max but I'm probably getting around 500 out of it. But I also have an Aquaclear 110 and 2 Cascade 1500 Canisters. My tank is crystal clear :)

I'm trying to cut back on tubes in the tank and energy

I build dump filters for my large tanks - basically a rubbermaid sump supported over the tank with water pumped from the tank...and trickling (dumping) back into the tank vs. holes in the bottom of the rubbermaid.

It's much more efficient than a sump because you're only dealing with a foot or so of pump head (vs. 5-6 feet for a sump). I primarily use air-powered boxes and sponges in my fishroom (and very few heaters). Very efficient.

Just imagine a rubbermaid sitting on top of your tank...with holes in the bottom to allow water to return to the tank via gravity...and a source of water from the tank into the rubbermaid.

There are a million variations on how to build one (hide it in a nice-looking container...or use a three-drawer plastic storage unit...or just fill it with bio balls)... I feed the dump filter on top of my 180g SA Community with the outflow from an FX5. The dump on my 150g is fed with a dedicated water pump.

May go wet/dry. Tank is a 75 so i think ill do 2 1.5 inch overflows with a 700 gallon pump. This is still undecided just cuz im so used to my filtration now i dont know if i wanna change it

Two 1.5" overflows handle over 2000 gph. Just one 1.5" drain would be plenty.

Ok I was told to do 2 in case a one gets plugged. What pump would be best. Don't wanna go too crazy

How much flow will 1 1/4 inch pipe give me cuz my friend gave me a 10 foot piece
