TSN in 250 gallon concrete pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I were you id throw an asian aro and a tigrinus. Make a simple bambo/net fence around it a few ft high. And put a few lotus plants or water lillies in it. Make sure you filtration is top notch and do water changes to water your yard plants as well as giving the fish clean water.

Good idea. It rains about 6 times a month and I live in a tropical country so the rain fills up pond higher and goes through the overflow so the water changes itself and the temperatures are always the same. Been thinking asian aros but just worried about the jumping.

Do the Asian aro/ Tig set up. Make a fence like gangster said. You may be able to have a few Oscars and a clown knife with your aro/Tigs combo. Filtration plays a large part in this.

Do it Iamtohomas. The plants you incorporate into the system also play a great role in filtration. You could always have a pump or 2 pump from the pond into a wine barrel type filter. Have some more eye catching plants in the wine barrels. Lillies/lotus plants etc will look great around the pond in barrels. The more water volume the better. The plants will suck up excess nitrates etc thru their roots. Keep us update w/ your stocking.

That is the wrong attitude to have. Pet shops should be able to sell any fish in the world. It is up to the buyer to be a responsible buyer and know the requirements of the fish your getting. IMO if you can't research a pet before you buy it you don't need to have any pets. Simple as that. If I am going to get a gaboon viper I am going to research all about it, were anti venom is and how to keep anti venom in home. I am not going to just go to the reptile show on a Fri night and bring one home and then ask... now what?
I can continue but do to some things going on right now I won't.

I will say this though, congrats to the op for actually asking about it before doing it. Now he can have happy fish and not be in a situation with a fish he has grown attached to and has now were to put it.

I agree with this and all other posts by Sbuse.

There are only two options here that I can see. If we as a fish-keeping community don't change the ways we buy live fish pets (and then often subject them to inhumane keeping or worse yet dump them in the wild), our goverments will do it for us sooner or later... and then we will squeel that our freedoms and options are taken away from us. So, we should strive to be the good ambassadors of the right ways of excercising our freedoms and options when it comes to keeping pet fishes.

To OP: yes a TSN could be ok there for ~2 years. If you have no other plans, please don't get a TSN that is designed to max out at more than 3'. If you like the look of large Pimelididae catfishes, look through others, plenty of ~1.5' options: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/family.php?family_id=15

A leaves netting is cheap, durable and rather inconspicuous and an option of covering the pond. Easthetics will suffer, surely, but you will also protect your fish from the outside predators of air and land.

Not to offend sbuse but he's only saying what people want to hear because he has a tsn and his biggest tank is a 180 gallon full of big gar. It would take a tsn 5 or 6 years to out grow his pond. But I'm likening the idea of a aro and a Tig better then the tsn idea better a tank with only one tsn would be boring

Asian aros are very highly territorially aggressive. Either a large group of say at least 10 or a loner usually works in the tank of your size.
