What are bucket/barrel towers?

Like what gangster was saying. If you get some barrels and put them along side the pond and have a pump to pump water into the top of the barrel. Have the barrel filled with media. Then out the bottom have a drain hole to have the water flow back into the tank. You could have a few of them and in the top make a basket to hold some nice eye appealing plants that would make the pond look nice while filtering your water.

How would I go about with keeping a aro without it jumping out without making the pond an eyesore with a cover...

You could do linned whine barrels one one end and plexiglass raised guards on the other.

Too complex and time consuming. What about a picket fence? How tall should the fence be

All you'd need to do is PVC cement 4 sheets of plexiglass together in a box the same dim as your pond. Then your barrels are your added filters just drill holes for your return pipes. A fairly simple and not an eye sore. A picket fence may not give you the containment you need and it would be an eye sore. A few feet high I would assume. I have seen a 2'+ silver aro jump 3' out of my 180 gal when I tried to catch it.

Oh... Looks like aros aren't for me now then... What about a pond full of discus?

You could also just do a net. The net should have small holes so the aro won't get caught in it.

Discus in an outdoor pond is risky. That is a lot of money that likes stable environments.
