Still planning a little enclosure setup here.

Anybody know the actual difference between ExoTerra "desert" and "rainforest" heating pads? I assume one has more wattage than the other. But it says that the desert ones dry out the environment and the rainforest ones encourage humidity, so I'd just assume they're different temperatures and as such different wattage.

Which would you use if you were looking to get 50-60% humidity in a glass enclosure with cypress mulch? Temps in the 80s.

Thanks!

I can't see how the pads would be much different from one another except for maybe the wattage. The air flow, substrate and moisture levels will pretty much dictate what humidity levels will be achieved in the end.

I figured as much. So would you just go with the desert one for high wattage and adjust accordingly with water bowl size and substrate?

Just get a heating pad and a rheostat. You can make a rheostat for about $7 and get a cheap heating pad online.

I always buy the desert pads. They work great and have a higher wattage. Rain forest pads don't heat up as much.

Look into Zoo Med heat pads, Exo Terra heat pads are much more prone to failure IME.

As well, you will need a thermostat in order to keep your temperature consistent.
