so the last little while ive noticed im getting yellow coloured water maybe even greenish water hard to tell but more yellow then anything, no i dont get direct sunlight at all and lights are on for 8hrs a day(dual 48" shop light 6500k bulbs on 72" tank)...now i have 2 fx5's on the tank and it full of bio media and fine filter pads so no room to really add carbon or purigen in the canisters....

now what would be a good way to add something on my tank interally or externally without spending ALOT of money of a canister... i cant really add a HOB filter as i have a 62" spray bar and both intakes and the one dual output for the filters and power cords and such...i need to hold enough media to treat between 150-200g or even more so it doesnt get exhuasted as fast as smaller amounts would

First off, are you sure it's not driftwood leaching into the water? If no, then you may just need to run a polishing pad. The marineland hot 350 can be filled with only carbon, wrapped in a big polishing pad. They're somewhere around 120$, and I can personally say that it's a great supplement to your canisters. I use one with success. You could literally read a book through 4' of water in my man cave 75 gal

hmmm, not 100% sure it is tanning leeching didnt think it did it before really ? i thought about just taking out the fine filter floss from each layer of the two fx5's and just adding a couple fine filter pads i have laying around here on top basket right on the very top to see if it makes a difference.....mine use to be SUPER clean and clear as well but not so much lately... maybe the driftwood is starting to leech tanning's ?

like i did a water change today on the tank, and if i look down length ways (6ft) ya can see just the yellow off white colour in the water from the lights i have but after a week it looks like the water has a tinge to it of some sort, defintly looks ALOT cleaner/clearer now then before i did the water change ... should i maybe see about getting a phosban reactor 150 and stuffing it with fluval carbon (big container here likely AT LEAST 2 litres worth) and run my extra maxi jet 1200 series on it throttled back (powerhead mode 295gph)

If its yellow water I would do 2 things. Use led lights to make sure it's not just your k temp that's making it yellow, and run more carbon. If its greenish, I would add an inline uv sterilizer to your canisters intake. They're much cheaper at home depot in the garden section.

well i have a dual bulb t5h0 fixture that has 10000k bulb and actinic bulb which makes the tank bright and really white and shows the clearity of the water but i have a reg t8 dual shoplight with 6700k bulbs in it.... so maybe i'll wait till next weekend and toss my t5h0 fixture on it and see what the water looks like form one end to another then eh ... and right now im not running ANY carbon atm .... only seachem matrix biomax and filter floos pads and thats is all

i also thought about grabbing a used rena xp3 and stuff one level coarse and medium and fine filter pads and then the other two remanding levels with carbon which should really last quite a while and not get exhuasted as quick as a smaller amount

alright well so far with the lights off you can look down from one end of the tank to the other without any colouration so im kinda thinking maybe it is the bulbs being a 6500 rating that making it look coloured...maybe i'll have to buy a couple different bulbs for it then
