That's what I thought too. Maybe it's like with texas and the locale can cause slight variations?

Has to be, I'm almost 100% positive there are only two species, not 4. As much as I was into Para's I would have thought I would have come upon a third species at some point or another. But I could be wrong.

As I understand it, that is not a valid name. Bleekeri is not a valid name either. The large spotted Paratilapia is Paratilapia polleni. All small spotted Paratilapia are using collection areas as species names ( Paratilapia sp. East coast). Bleekeri and typus are names that may come back into play when all the small spot species are finally named.

Paratilapia typus is an old synonym for Paratilapia polleni when it was described as the small spot Paratilapia. It is now a a synonym corresponding to the fish known as Paratilapia sp. 'East coast small spot'. This info. comes from pages 26- 27, The Endemic Cichlids Of Madagascar, by Patrick de Rham & Jean-Claude Nourissat.

I know I am not the OP, but thanks for this info as well.... guess I had mine misidentified. I was just going on what the LFS were telling me when I bought them. thanks again, I dislike not knowing the correct info on my fish!

Interesting one thing that's for sure is the species polleni and it's variants are highly debated. Really kind of a dead issue about wether the "bleekeri" should have it's own sp. or be lumped into the sp. polleni cuz they think it to be extinct in the wild. I happen to like the small spot myself. To the o.p. would love to see pics as he progresses.
