I wouldn't even feed dog food to my dogs. That stuff is bad for them. I feed my dogs raw meat. As for fish I feed them CB feeders(wild fish don't eat pellets in the wild, they eat other fish). Wouldn't recommend the dog food to fish.

All you feed your dog is raw meat? That can't be good for them, dogs are not just carnivores. Cats are strictly carnivores but dogs are omnivores. They need plants and stuff as well.

:duh: I don't think that makes much sense.

Wrong. Dogs in nature are carnivorous. Benefits in raw feeding far outweigh any negative points. Their digestive system has not changed for centuries. No point why raw feeding cannot be done to dogs. Sadly, people are used to feeding kibbles to their dogs, they forget kibbles did not appear until someone got the idea about it.

Agreed. Dogs are truly carnivores. I need to get mine on a more raw diet. I just haven't because I haven't done enough research to know the proper procedure for switching and then the meats that are best for them.

nice little side discussion we have about dogs and diets, Lupin seems to be very knowledgable on this subject and I'm going to assume he has some dogs!

I guess I will just not use it, I just remember hearing around the forum over the years that people had used it for large predatory fish (large catfish and snakeheads etc, which I have) It was just a thought if it can't be done then I just won't bother

I did have a friend that used dog food for an oscar for a while. He's not smart with fish, they are just a decoration that his wife enjoys, but he didn't notice any health issues, he quit using it because it clouded the water, thus rendering their decoration less attractive. (some people just shouldn't own fish.)

Sorry I guess I'm wrong I was just going off of what my professor told me in class Monday.

What we do when switching from kibbles to raw meat is fast the dog. Puppies should be fast a day only whereas adults should be fast two days prior to feeding them meat. During fasting period, give them only water to drink. This ensures they flush out all toxins coming from kibbles. Failing this, dogs tend to get severe skin irritation and hair thinning as a result of sudden switch of diet. Expect the poop to become moist at first but will eventually harden.

I suggest starting with chicken meat first for the first three weeks. Then, you can rotate with beef and pork. Beef is more expensive but much better than pork as it has less parasites. All you need to do is find a clean source for meat and freeze the meat for at least three days before you feed.

Check first your dog's weight in proportion to meat consumption. Adults should be fine with 3% body weight consumption for a day.

Sorry for the side discussion. :) Rafini, I have six dogs from a dobie to a chi.
