I have an albino female axolotl and got her a buddy a while back, a male leucistic axolotl. They have been popping out eggs and my girlfriend and I have had luck hatching and growing out the babies after ALOT of reading with scarce info. This was kind of a welcome accident and, since I dont see these guys up for sale too often, I thought I'd share these awesome little guys with fellow MFKers.

FIRST OFF, I will NOT NOT NOT Ship to California or sell to New Jersey as they are illegal in these areas. PLEASE DONT EVEN ASK, I will NOT take the risk.

That being said, the father is an 11"+ Leucistic ("albino" with black eyes) and the mother is Albino and 8"
It's not common for these guys to breed from all the feedback I have been getting and it is VERY time consuming for us to care for and maintain these guys. We feed twice a day minimum to ensure proper growth and have to do two daily waterchanges to keep the water crisp and clean since these guys prefer slower water flow and a filter is not the way to go at this point.

They were started on live brine shrimp for about a month (big headache to regularly get bulk amounts) and then when they reached about an inch were switched over to live blackworms (which are not cheap even in bulk). The HARD WORK HAS BEEN DONE and they are now eating sinking Hikari Carnivore pellets with the occassional blackworms once a day or so.

They young are pretty easy to care for from this point on. They prefer cooler temps in the mid 60's and do best in 65 to 68 degree F water. Axolotls get stressed out with heavy water flow so a small filter will suffice as long as water is kept clean. bubblers are not recommended as these guys come up for air from time to time and intake their oxygen through the external gills. A relatively lower water level helps them find food easier and come up for air easier. Once they reach 6" or so feeding can be reduced to 3 times a week. The adults are fed every two to three days with either market shrimp, silversides, or (mainly) Massivore pellets.

Clean cooler water with a slow flow and dim lighting is the best environment for these little guys to keep them happy and stress free. Water must be conditioned with aquarium conditioner (I use seachem prime or safe) and salt isnt necessary and only tolerated in small amounts. These guys regenerate limbs if they bite each other so do not be alarmed if they are missing a foot one day as it will grow back. I keep my adult pair in a 30 Breeder comfortably and will be using the sale profits for upgrading them to a larger frag tank.

Also I must STRESSSSSS that they should not be kept with fish. Fish will nip at the external gills and small fish will get eaten. So an axolotl-only setup is best. Fine sand or bare bottom are the preferred substrate choices as larger items can be swallowed and cause internal issues. Plants and driftwood can also be added for cover but they CANNOT tolerate liquid ferttilizers. I have however kept the parents with fine sand-like substrate fertilizer.

We have "Wildtype" and "Blue" babies. $30 for the Wilds and $40 for the Blues which are pretty rare.
We paid 75 for a 3" axolotl when we first got ours so we feel the prices are more than fair.

Shipping should be in the $58 ballpark (got a quote to the west coast for reference) via Delta Cargo Airport to airport. They will be properly packaged for the trip with oxygen and all to ensure they make the journey if necessary. However, we'd prefer to deal locally. Located in NY/LI area. Again, WILL NOT deal with anyone in Jersey as they are illegal there.

You can check my two Axolotl threads to see the parents, eggs, and how far the babies have come since.

Here are some random pics of the babies as of this week.View attachment 892402View attachment 892403IMG2265.jpgIMG2262.jpgView attachment 892406View attachment 892407View attachment 892408

Better pics of the blues and some more shots of the wildtypes. The angle of the Blue I posted above makes it look wierd. These are a bit older pics tho

Also, blues are limited. Not too many available and i didnt even know they existed until I saw mine and did some searching.

I love these guys - been looking for an affordable piebald. Good luck!

Wish you could ship them here. :)

Very cool critters. Hope you keep with this hobby as no one esle is doing it. Hard to find.

THANKS for all the kind words. I seem to never have any luck selling anything live on MFK. Prices are stupid cheap on most of my posts but I guess people like to pay retail mark up :p. I have sold several outside of MFK but no bitters from here. Depending on how this goes Ill decide if ill keep the supply coming. Let's see, maybe the weekend will spice things up a bit.
