the main problem with micros ransom is not seen at the size yours are i would not hesitate to mix them with others too large to eat while in juvie colouration ,unfortunatly juvie colouration is only a small part of there lives , i totally agree that your tank looks great with both species in, however when the micro gets its full adult colours that is when there temprement changes and things start to go wrong. i really hope it doesnt happen in your tank and if you pull it off hats off to you . i hope iam wrong but i would be very supprised if all your snakeheads will be there in 12 to 18 months from now and if they are what if theystart to pair up?

by the way what tank are you planning for those big boys , i have seen a few guys on here keeping big micros that appear fully grown and that allways looks impresive , the largest i personally have housed was around 2ft before i decided i could no longer house comfortably, i have yet to see anyone with a private aquarium sucsessfully house more than one full adult sized micro in one tank yet alone two micros and two maruloides, the closest i have seen is domis maruloids pair with fry. i have seen some similar combos in public aquariums or big lfs , and there is defanatly some people on here who have tanks large enough or could afford to provide adiquate accomadation and indeed some people with tropical ponds which would probably suit size wize.

would love to see updates of your guys and i really do hope you prove me wrong , iam not flamming you mate , iam genuinely interested in how things like this work out in the long term.

cheers col

hay tropheus i will eventually when they outgrow this tank a 7 or 8 foot tank, my g/f has already ok'd it its going into our kitchen against the back wall so basicly it could be 10foot if need be, but i think 7 or 8 will be ok for filtration and heating,

im not sure about keeping the maur long term yet, they are beautfiul but my passion lies with the micros,

ill have too see how they hold out,

well many thanks tropheus, that was a very interesting read! I feel nice today so I'll just let you be a honorary grumpy german! Grumpy German is btw by no means an attempt to be smart since I deeply respect "their" knowledge!

I will take some time to think about it.. "unfortunatly" after reading this I'm leaning more towards letting the maruliodes be the only snakehead in my tank. lack of space stops me from setting up another big tank right now but I get the feeling I will also have little snakeheads swimming around some day..

And ransom, you are a brave man and if your plan goes through your tank will be a freakin' monster in 2 years.. keep us updated! I will try the combo vicariously through you ;)

hi guys , ransom i wish you the best of luck with it , and hope you prove us all wrong, the main thing you are going to need is not lenght but width , my tank is 9ft but i could still not house a micro past the two foot mark due to my limited width , you need to be planning at least 8-10 foot by at least 3ft wide as both micro and maruloides will reach 2.5ft very easy in a tank , if you can go 8ft or more by 4ft wide then you will have the most chance of it working , trying just the two micros in that size tank will greatly increase your chances of sucseeding but will still be toutch and go . esp if they turn out to be two males. the best way to try it would be to move on the maruloides now and add more micros , and as they turn into adult colouration watch them for any signs of a pair , two that hang around with each other ect. there is of course a big down side to doing it that way ,you would need to reholme the spare micros. but you could be left with two fish that tolerate each other through adulthood and a very impresive tank indeed , anyway just a couple of suggestions to think about.

ettfetbramamn -lol . maruliodes only tank would be awsome mate and if they bred for you that would be an even better sight . or even a tank with just one large channa looks great and removes a lot of the risks, iam shure whatever you choose you will enjoy it .

cheers col

well from what i read the marulioides max at out 26inches i have three micros the biggest being almost 36 inches so far and getting bigger so with that said ten onches is quite a size difference lol.i also think that channa should be kept in a species only tank but there are lots of people out there that do mix with sucess.so guess its a trial and error but i wouldnt do it personaly.another way to look at it is fish are kinda like humans not everyone of them is going to get along with other fish some people say dont mix a certain species cause they will just kill each other and then someone comes along and does it with success .so on that note i think its just up to u and if u try best of luck ! i just woudnt do it myself thats all i get to attached to my fish and hate losing them .

i think that this fella mixing them since juvie. and mixing them with 2 marus and 1 micro become success. but if 2 micros and 1 maru i think that maru become micros dinner lol. anyway love to see your micros.
