No they are grinding food and food will come out regardless. Personally I don't feed my fish until they stop eating or they're stomaches are bulging. Don't believe in overdfeeding. Some people do, some don't. Juvies eat 2-3x a day, smaller portions and anything over 8" I feed once a day. When you have a full grown fish, they don't break down food like juvies and you could actually kill them.
And as far as the Epsom salt solution, I am totally against it. I have used it to a T and and lost one fish an almost another and it took injecting stronger meds into the stomach to save it.
