Thank you. Contacted Canadian aquatics, 90 bucks to ship a 40 dollar pound, going to see if any lfs can order them for me or if that guy on Kijiji comes to London as I wouldn't be able to go till next weekend to toronto.

Yup I ordered from them. Will have them Wednesday, hopefully he has a chance still then.

If you ordered from the states you should ask them to mark it as "gift" or you may be hit with a customs charge.
I get it marked as gift all the time and never get custom charges. The times the company won't mark it as gift then I get the hit and its usually 20% of the total order or a min of $20 I believe.
That's if it's sent with ups or fed ex. Through USPS you should have no problem.

Infection on barb has gotten worse, surrounds barb entirely for about half a cm in length. I think this happens then falls off and then starts again. He was very active today, swam around a lot, pounced on the food hard. Still no swallow, blackworms arrive Wednesday. Could his own barb or the secretions from it if it were cracked or damaged be what's making him sick?

I have no experience with Epsom as a treatment for Hex - and since he's not eating your only way to get any in him would be syringe so the question is probably: do you want to net him to try a largely undocumented solution to a problem you haven't confirmed you have? Maybe if he won't take blackworms you get desperate enough to try that.

Very much doubt the barb trouble is related to his intestinal woe.

*IF* he takes any worms, don't go too heavy on the feeding immediately - if he hasn't eaten for this long, too much food all in one go might be hard for his system to handle.

your reasoning was pretty much along my lines, i know it would stress the hell out of the creature but if theres seriously no other option taht comes up here i may just have to try it. i dont wanna just sit here watching him die doing nothing, then again would probably kick myself if the treatment was too much.

everyone else seems to think the barb issue is unrelated as well, which is logical but at the same time i have heard of cases where creatures venemous parts end up poisoning them when they dont work properly or are damaged. but nothing I can about it anyway as i have a ton of salt in there and that should be helping a lot in fighting the infection, and like ive said hes had it fall off and come back perdiodically so i will agree its unlikely to be related other than stress wise.

thanks for your continued help pete. i will certainly do as you say with the blackworms. hope they work, in tomorrow.
