This is the tank, water dimensions are 36" x 14" x 14". I have a Jewel cichlid that I think is getting bored as it has nothing to be territorial with and I'm just trying to look at some options.

syno SHOULD be fine in there ...but the jewell might have different take on things in that small a tank

Jewels only about 2" at the moment so I should be able to easily get a similar sized feather fin, and apparently they grow really fast so the jewel might have to get used to it :p

IF THEY ARE BOTH BABIES ,AND GROW UP TOGETHER CHANCES ARE GOOD... just watch em fairly close for a few days ... it should work though...looking at that tank again I REALLY LIKE THE SET UP... well done...

Thanks. I hate the mentality of just taking a fish back when it gets to big but if it comes to that I guess I'll have too. I'll get some more advice and look at other options but I'll keep it in mind.

almost ANY syno will be ok in a 36x14 tank... its just the compatibility you need to worry about..:)

not true, i have seen many fish from juvi grow up together then turn on each other.. but no, that tank is to small. its not the aggression i would be worried about, its the tank size, synos should be in a tank no less then a 55 with a 75 being better..

Are there any other riverine species of synos that would be suitable. From research I've done S. Flavitaeniatus, and Schoutedeni seem appropriate but I highly doubt I would be able to find these in Australia for any less than hundreds of dollars!
