After a couple of weeks of research along with a couple months of waiting, I have finally got a hold of an entire group despite all this turmoil in Africa. I wanted to start this journal so I can document and share my experience with these fish with everyone.
I currently have them in a 72x18Wx24H. My group includes 3 hydrocynus goliath, and 2 hydrocynus tanzaniae. Tank mates include 3 tin foil barbs, and a leichardi arowana.
March 20, 2013 – (Day of Arrival/Acclimation)
All 3 Gatf are at the 5”+ Mark
Both Tatf are at the 4”+ Mark
After a couple of hours being in the tank, there seems to be two groups. The three gatf swims together while the other two taft school with the barbs.
Here are a couple crappy iPhone photos with lots of glare (DSLR pictures to come when the fish settle down and are no longer spazzing) I had to slowly, I mean slowly creep closer to the tank with my phone with very little movement until the phone was on the glass to get these pictures:

I am starting pellet training today. After 6 hours of being in the tank, I threw a couple of Hikari Jumbo Carnisticks broken into halves and thirds. To my surprise, the taft definitely study the barbs and both of them have taken a bite but spit it out. The gatf show no interest. I have about 5000 gph of current. The taft and barbs like to swim directly in the powerheads while all three gatf swim near the top of the tank.

Will be interesting to see how they get along when larger, didn't think it was too common to be able to cohab different ATFs.....

Also curious how long they'll last in a 125......

5K GPH in there? Must be windy......

Keep the updates coming!!

The moment it gets warmer, im gonna build a really large plywood tank with one giant glass window, thinking about around 800 gals

Im probably under-estimating how fast these guys grow, i have a 180, and 300 gallon for when the time comes.

The 300 should last you about a year. I have mine in a 650 and they're around 9". I think that's even too small. These guys really need a lot of room.

i'm just curious in what will happen to the lei.

I read over your entire 650 build, and its pretty impressive. I really like the idea of the submerged webcam. How is it setup? Is the computer connected to the tank webcam always on? I was thinking it would be a great idea since my tank is at my shop to turn the tankcam computer on when i leave and have a program that will have a setting auto accept all incoming calls or something that way i can webcam from home when ever i want.

i'm just curious in what will happen to the lei.

Check out m_class2g's lei with a ton of atf and a couple gatf

Looks good, Danny! I look forward to watching them grow. The GATF in the second pic looks really nice, he has an impressive jaw on him.

I have 8,850 GPH in a 150. It's quite windy lol. I've had Max in here since April 2012 and 2.5". He's 10-11 inches now. He seems to be beginning to get stressed in the 150. I really need to get to work on the big tank. :/ I feel the current really helps with their need to swim.

See above, my guy has grown less than an inch a month.

If Leis are surface fish like the SA aros, I don't see the tigers bothering him. I've kept GATF, VATF and TATF with aros and haven't had an issue yet that wasn't started by the aros. The ATF seem to ignore surface fish and bottom fish.
