Swimming in a mountain river
Hi. So. I'm eventually getting a 1000gal tank. I was curious the legality of some fish i'm interested in. Was interested in tigerfish(not goliath), and red-tail catfish. Its hard to find reliable info on legality of these in captivity.
And for my other tank to be filled in a few months. Was wondering proper size tank for arowana(pretty sure they're legal), if one can live safely and have adiquate space w/ a pair of adult tiger oscars. I don't want oscars beating it up or vice versa. Also what is compatability of black knife fish and tiger oscars? Would be one or the other, not both aro and knife(assuming tank isn't big enough for everyone or they're not compatable). Want to be educated before i make any commitments. Thanks for any advice or help.

What species of arowana?

Well. Currently in CA. But moving in a few months, to somewhere in Anacortes or Oak Harbor(not sure exactly where yet). Does county matter in fish laws...?

My main issue is that i've heard RTC need 500gal, some say 200gal, some say 300gal. Same goes for the rest of the fish i'm asking about. I'm looking for opinions of keepers of large fish; not someone just guessing, or a random person following bad pet store advice.

200 gal is not big enough for an rtc. It depends on the footprint I guess, but I don't think I've seen a 300g I'd throw a fully grown rtc in either. Then again I haven't seen many 300g tanks lol. GATF need a LOT of swimming space. I believe there is a thread on here with something like a 30" one in a 600G tank, I'll try to dig it up for you after school to give you an idea of how big it is. It makes the tank look small. Note that the other species of tigerfish get just as big in captivity.

I was thinking 200gal was way too small. Seems like waiting for my 1000gal would b in the rtc best interest(i'm assuming that'd b sufficient). Darn. Was hoping i could get one sooner, they're such a beautiful fish... Oh well. Fish come first :) Thanks for the advice.

Decided against keeping TF. I'm not ready for a fish like that and won't b for awhile. Maybe after more personal experience w/ large, slightly less dangerous fish.

Pretty much decided on oscars and BGK. So. Does anyone have answers to my question about black ghost knifefish and oscar compatibility? Also appropriate BGK tank size? Thanks
