The various peoples that live in a recent country called Spain spek several languages, offcially, even.
They speak Castellano ( your "spanish" ), they speak Catalonian, they speak Gallego, they speak Basque.
You do not hear one word of Castellano in Spain's second largest city, Barcelona.
In latin america they all speak Castellano.
They don't speak much Gallego any more - it was outlawed in Francista times and not that many young people still use it. I have a friend (ex- girlfriend) from Oliva and she taught me a bit of Gallego but she said it is (unfortunately) spoken less and less.
