[h=1]What is the best food to feed a fire eel ???????[/h]
i have one 70 cm but eat only shrimp and i think have swim bladder :(:(:(

I want to buy 2 more but I do not want to repeat the same mistake I think the fish got sick because he ate only shrimp

try earthworms they work really well usually. Or if yours only eats shrimp then you can cut the prawn and try slip in a good quality pellet food such as hikari carnivore pellets

NIghtcrawlers have always been my go too.. avoid bloodworms for the same reason as shrimp... and try other seafoods.. some people have been successful with fish... the key is it must be fresh, imo they are the most picky eaters I've ever owned. My M dayii will eat smelt, but our lil' fire still refuses anything but live blackworms... once large enough she'll be on nightcrawlers.. and while expensive and a pita to feed ime are a great staple, i mixed it with frozen krill to try and give some diversity..

another thing i will say is you commented about the swim bladder.. spiney eels in general ime are full of IPs.. when you first bring them home and QT them be sure to treat them with anything tahst considered ray safe for internal parasites... I also dose my eel tanks bi-yearly as a precautionary measure. IPs are a silent killer.

My last fire eel ate fresh caught shimp for 2 years with no problems. Once my new baby fire eel is large enough he will be on shrimp too. As far as I'm concerned shrimp stuffed with pellets is the best food for them

+1 all mine eats is shrimp and shrimp is one of the best foods to feed. Occasionally I'll slip some NLS in too.

How is shrimp one of the best foods to feed? and fresh caught shrimp are very different from frozen/store bought shrimp.. so I suppose I should rephrase what I said.

I'd go for varied seafood. Mussels, shrimp, squid and whatever. Although you can do most of the stuff people said before.
