Oscars always jump for food in the wild, and mine used to do it. Anyone who has fished for them can attest to this.

This little p. loisellie jumped out of the water and bit me twice missing the food lol..

Oscars and chocolate cichlids have been my worse offenders. I had a chocolate cichlid jump and the pellet filled water he splashed out went right in my mouth.

My Oscar has come half out of the water several times when feeding.

I have 5 little Godmanni that are 2-3 inches and having moved them a few times from tank to tank they have jumped about a foot out of the tank
to avoid the net. I didn't realize the little things were capable of coming that far out of the water lol.

One time i had my hikari package and was dumping food in the tank. My aro jump and i startled. Half of food sticks was inside tank

I had Oscars who jumped to get food out of my hand. I didn't know that was a thing they did in the wild as well..Interesting..

Yeah this is why their mouths are shaped like they are. They mainly feed off the surface. This is one of the reseans they make great game fish to catch.
